PATRIOT PROJECT
MISSION AND OBJECTIVE STATEMENT

MISSION

The mission of the Loudoun Revolutionary War Memorial Committee is two-fold: (1) Honor the Loudoun County participants in the Revolutionary War and (2) Inform citizens about the significant events and people of that era.

We will honor them best by preserving the character traits that led them to willingly pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor.

OBJECTIVE

Our objective is to convey the flavor of the colonial culture that gave rise to this nation, which has been held in such high esteem by the world for so many years. The personal characteristics of the founders are largely responsible for the enduring qualities of our governing instruments. Citizens having knowledge of this history are equipped to make good judgments at the polls.
Citizens who are informed and educated about the character of the society of the Revolutionary era will be inspired to emulate our founders. The process of informing and educating will refer to significant events/people which gave rise to the Revolutionary War, occurred during the War, and were a result of the War, with particular emphasis on Loudoun County. Virginia was well represented at the Continental Congress, and some of the Virginia delegates represented Loudoun County, i.e. Francis Lightfoot Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Sgt. Maj. John Champe, and Lt. Col. Leven Powell served with distinction in the War for Independence. While the main emphasis is on Loudoun County, items and people such as the Declaration of Independence, the Loudoun and Fairfax Resolves, Washington’s Farewell Address, James Monroe, Lafayette, the Great Seal of the United States and the United States Constitution are important aspects of the period.
